Staff Changes at Sapphic Voices

Wakar's role at Sapphic Voices has changed from chief Webmistress to that of Advisor.

She has chosen to focus more of her time and energy on further exploration of spiritual issues, and will probably achieve enlightenment before all the rest of us, especially roc-it.

There would not be a Sapphic Voices without Wakar. Shy person that she is, she usually chooses to stay behind the scenes. But her role in this endeavor has been a major one. The original design and concept of SV was Wakar's work. The new design is merely an expansion on her original concept for the website.

Please join me in expressing my gratitude to Wakar for everything she has done for all of us.

Staff Changes at Sapphic Voices

For personal reasons, both roc-it scientist and Wakar have decided to permanently transfer the Guardianship of the Sapphic Voices website to the altladies.com Community.

We take the importance of this responsibility quite seriously, and shall endeavor to preserve the spirit and body of this most wonderful of websites.. one that is wholly dedicated to showcasing the talents of Lesbian Writers.

We owe much to roc-it scientist and Wakar for creating and then maintaining Sapphic Voices for us all. And we are all truly grateful for their kind generosity in allowing it to remain online.

THANK YOU, roc-it scientist and Wakar!

New Appearance for Sapphic Voices

You have probably been wondering what on earth we have been doing that could cause such a drastic delay in implementing a regular posting schedule for Sapphic Voices. The answer is: a new design for the entire site. In general, I felt that we needed to improve the design in three areas: (1) it needed to be easier navigate, with more cross-referencing; (2) it needed a more consistent design that was distinctive to SV, yet was not burdened by images and graphics; and (3) a design that could be administered more efficiently, given the limitations of my HTML programming knowledge.

General descriptions of the changes made are described below. Please let me know if you experience any difficulties with links or the new design. Your feedback is always helpful and seriously considered.

  • Faster Download Times:

For the main pages at least. Longer Stories have still not been broken down into little bits, because that makes them more difficult to print. Improving download times was also the reason that I eliminated the images for navigation buttons and the backgrounds.

  • Easier Navigation:

SV is now intensely cross referenced for the reader's convenience. From any page on the site, you can easily navigate to any of the main pages. On the Story and Poetry pages, I have also added specific links to a list of all of that Authoress' Works on SV. (See the notes on the Authoresses page below.)

  • Authoresses Page:

The Authoresses page has been expanded into an entire section. Each Authoress has a separate page on which all of her SV works are listed, plus any comments or biographical information provided by the Authoress. I hope to also add links to the Authoress' home pages and to their publications elsewhere on the Internet if that information is volunteered.

  • Mission Statement:

The Sapphic Voices Mission Statement has not changed. Our purpose is still the same: to encourage Lesbians to write. The statement was merely moved to reduce download time for our frequent visitors.

  • Revised Submission Guidelines:

The guidelines were thoroughly re-written to incorporate lessons we have learned over the last year about what is needed for a submission. We have also more clearly stated our editorial policy.

New Appearance for Sapphic Voices

You have most likely noticed the new color shade now displayed on the website pages. You may place the blame for this modification squarely on the Webmistress, as she was unable to make out the links because her eyesight must be growing worse!      ; )

You may have also noticed that an extra Link has been added to the Home page under Discussions and to the bottom menu of all Story and Poetry pages.. this Link shall take you to the Chat Wing of the altladies.com Community where a Room has been created in honour of the Sapphic Voices website. This Room was specifically created for the use of the Authoresses whose Work is posted here at Sapphic Voices and for their readers. You may now communicate "in person" with your favorite Writer and with one another!

New Domain for Sapphic Voices

We are extremely proud to announce that, as of 29Sep01, the Sapphic Voices website has been separated from the altladies.com Community and has been relocated to its very own dedicated server space.

The new domain address is: http://www.sapphicvoices.com/

The purpose of this modification is twofold.. firstly, we believe that a high calibre and quality website such as Sapphic Voices is more than important enough to deserve its own domain, and lastly, the sheer magnitude of traffic that Sapphic Voices attracts was tending to overburden the Community's own server space, thus interfering with its smooth operation.

May we continue to be as successful in the future as in the past, Ladies.

And on we go...

New Appearance for Sapphic Voices

It has been quite a while since the Sapphic Voices website was updated in any manner. A new category, Erotica, has been added to accommodate those whose preferences lean toward a bit racier fare. All Stories containing adult content are labeled to reflect that content. This category is presented strictly for the entertainment of Adults Only!

You may have noticed that a disclaimer has been attached to the lower portion of each page. This statement was included as an unfortunately necessary protection from the Copyright infringement of not only the Authoresses' Work but also the Sapphic Voices website itself.

As of February 2004, the total number of our Contributors surpassed 200 Writers! We desire to express our most sincere gratitude to each and every Woman who has so generously Shared of themselves with us all these past years. Thank you all so very much, Ladies! You have all managed to shape Sapphic Voices in your own collective Image...

New Contact Form for Sapphic Voices

As the result of the tremendous amounts of spam and e-mail virus being received through the SV mailbox, I was forced to institute an old-fashioned web-based Contact Form in the attempt to curb such activity. This form must be utilized for initial contact as the old e-mail address has been replaced as of immediately and any e-mail transmitted to the old address shall never be received, so please utilize the Contact Form for communication.

News of Contributors to Sapphic Voices

As of September 2011, our Contributor total surpassed 300 Writers! These past 14 years have been a most wonderful experience, Ladies. Expressions of heartfelt gratitude to and for everyone who has sought to so graciously give of themselves all these years. Congratulations to all! May SV continue along on its steadfast journey to inform and to entertain...
